Overview
Foundation plates are thick structural steel base plates welded or bolted beneath the AVL-DMP frame columns and machinery support legs. They distribute concentrated column loads over a larger bearing area on the concrete plinth, prevent local crushing of the foundation surface, and provide the anchor-bolt interface that ties the entire plant structure against wind loads, seismic forces, and the dynamic loads generated by drum rotation and material handling.
Avelta supplies foundation plates pre-drilled and, where specified, pre-fitted with anchor-bolt sleeves or levelling-pad recesses to suit standard civil drawing layouts. Plates are available as individual column-foot replacements or as a complete foundation kit covering all frame legs in a plant installation.
Function
Foundation plates convert point column loads into distributed bearing pressure and resist overturning and horizontal shear through the anchor-bolt connection. Without correctly designed and installed plates, differential settlement, anchor-bolt pull-out, or frame racking can develop and progressively misalign the drum and conveyor system, causing uneven wear and structural fatigue across the entire plant. A correctly sized and properly grouted plate set is the prerequisite for maintaining drum and drive alignment over the plant's operating life.
Construction & quality
Cut from IS 2062 Grade A / ASTM A36 structural mild steel plate, typically 20–40 mm thick; heavily loaded drum-end columns may use 50 mm plate. All bearing faces are milled flat to ±0.3 mm. Anchor-bolt holes are NC-drilled to H11 tolerance. Surfaces are blast-cleaned to Sa 2.5 and coated with two-pack epoxy for below-plinth durability. Levelling bolt bosses are machined and tapped M20–M30 where specified. Stiffening ribs are full-penetration fillet welded on plates exceeding 400 × 400 mm footprint.
When to replace
- Visible corrosion or section loss at the concrete-to-plate interface, particularly at grout perimeter
- Cracking at column-to-plate weld toes under cyclic loading detected by visual or dye-penetrant inspection
- Elongated or corroded anchor-bolt holes reducing effective clamping force
- Frame settlement or levelness drift that cannot be corrected by shimming or re-grouting
- Grout washout around the plate perimeter leaving the plate unsupported in bearing
Compatibility & fitment
Foundation plates are sized and drilled per the customer's plant layout drawing; Avelta supplies plates matched to AVL-DMP column foot patterns across 60–200 TPH plant sizes.
Why buy from Avelta
Plates are cut and milled to drawing and dispatched with a dimensional inspection record, enabling direct installation against the customer's existing civil foundation without on-site modification or re-drilling.
