Overview

The pulse-jet solenoid valve diaphragm is the elastomeric sealing and actuating membrane inside each pulse-jet valve on the AVL-MAP baghouse. Each pulse-jet valve controls a high-pressure compressed-air burst (6–8 bar) directed into a row of filter bags to dislodge accumulated filter cake. The diaphragm is the valve's sole moving component: it flexes open under solenoid-released pilot pressure and returns closed under spring and line pressure once the solenoid de-energises.

A typical AVL-MAP baghouse carries 6–20 pulse-jet valves, each firing in sequence on a programmable timer cycle. Diaphragm failure in one valve leaves that valve permanently open — causing continuous compressed-air loss — or permanently closed, meaning bags in that row are never cleaned and progressive blinding occurs.

Function

An intact diaphragm creates a complete seal when the valve is closed, preventing continuous air waste, and opens fully when the solenoid pilot fires, delivering a sharp, high-velocity air pulse that effectively dislodges the filter cake. As the diaphragm ages through repeated flex cycles (typically 10 000–40 000 actuations per day at normal cleaning intervals) the rubber fatigues and develops cracks along the flex radius. A cracked diaphragm leaks continuously, draining the compressed-air receiver, reducing pulse pressure and allowing bags to progressively blind. Replacing the full valve diaphragm set on a scheduled 12–18-month basis prevents reactive failure during production.

Construction & quality

Diaphragm material: EPDM rubber compounded for compressed-air service, Shore A 55–65, rated from –20 °C to +100 °C (–4 to +212 °F). Diaphragm diameter: 63–100 mm depending on valve DN size. A nylon or glass-reinforced polypropylene centre disc is bonded to the diaphragm face to prevent extrusion under peak air pressure. Flex radius and thickness are profiled to ISO 4422 diaphragm valve geometry to ensure proper opening stroke and positive seat sealing. Each kit includes the diaphragm, centre disc, back-up spring and pilot-port O-ring — all components subject to wear in a single service overhaul.

When to replace

  • Continuous hissing air leak audible at one or more pulse-jet valve bodies in the baghouse manifold.
  • Compressed-air receiver failing to hold system pressure during normal pauses between cleaning cycles.
  • Rising baghouse differential pressure in bags served by one valve row — valve permanently closed and not cleaning.
  • Abnormally low peak pulse pressure measured on the baghouse test gauge during a manual cleaning cycle.
  • Visible cracking, surface hardening or deformation of the diaphragm face during valve inspection.

Compatibility & fitment

Diaphragm kits are specified by pulse-jet valve brand and DN bore size; Avelta cross-references the customer's installed valve type to supply the correct diaphragm geometry and elastomer compound for all baghouse sizes on the AVL-MAP range.

Why buy from Avelta

Avelta diaphragm kits use EPDM compound rated for continuous compressed-air moisture and temperature cycling — ensuring the flex life the valve was designed for, rather than general-purpose rubber that hardens prematurely in compressed-air service and fails in the first season.
