Overview
The mixer trough liner plates are bolted wear panels lining the inner curved surface of the twin-shaft mixing trough, forming the abrasion shield between the raw aggregate charge and the structural steel shell. Arranged in a segmented layout around each shaft arc and along the flat end sections, the liners take the full brunt of stone-on-steel sliding and impact contact that occurs during every mixing cycle in the AVL-WMM plant.
Each plate is contoured to match the trough radius of the specific mixer capacity. Liner thickness determines the safe wear window before the underlying structural shell is exposed; Avelta plates are manufactured with a minimum 25 mm nominal wear thickness, providing the planned service life window established during plant design.
Function
By absorbing abrasion and impact in place of the permanent trough structure, liner plates allow the trough shell to remain serviceable for the life of the plant. They also maintain the precise internal clearance between paddle tip and trough surface — typically 5–15 mm — that governs mixing efficiency. Excessive liner wear increases this clearance, causing aggregate slip, prolonged mixing time, and potential motor overload. Liner plates should be inspected at each major service and replaced in full sets to maintain symmetric clearance across both shaft arcs.
Construction & quality
Cast from 13–18% manganese steel (Hadfield grade), heat-treated to maintain a fully austenitic structure with minimal carbide precipitation. Plate faces are machined after heat treatment to achieve flatness within 1.5 mm/m and the correct trough curvature to ±1 mm. Countersunk bolt holes accept M20–M24 hex-socket bolts, ensuring a flush inner face with no protrusion into the mix path. Plates are supplied in mirrored left and right profiles for the twin shafts. A chromium-carbide overlay (CCO) facing is available for sites with unusually hard aggregate (Mohs hardness above 7).
When to replace
- Wear thickness below 10 mm, confirmed by ultrasonic thickness gauge
- Paddle tip-to-trough clearance exceeding 20 mm measured with a gauge bar
- Visible cracks running across the plate face
- Hot spots or shell surface heating detectable after the mixing cycle
- Aggregate fines leaking at liner plate joints or through the bolt countersinks
Compatibility & fitment
Supplied in complete plate sets for AVL-WMM 100 through 400 TPH mixer troughs; Avelta coordinates plate profile, bolt pattern, and trough curvature to the serial-number record of the customer's mixer.
Why buy from Avelta
Plates are poured, heat-treated, and machined in the same production sequence as original-build liners, guaranteeing dimensional fit to the trough without site grinding or shimming.
