Overview

Cold bin liner plates are wear-resistant steel panels bolted to the interior floor, side walls, and hopper-angle sections of the cold feed bins. They form the contact surface that aggregate impacts and slides against as bins are loaded by front-loader or overhead conveyor and as material flows by gravity toward the bin gate. In a batch plant producing 80–320 TPH, the bins are refilled multiple times per shift, generating continuous high-impact and sliding abrasion from angular crushed stone, gravel, and RAP.

Liner plates are designed as a sacrificial protective layer over the structural bin shell. They are bolted in position so individual panels can be removed and replaced during planned maintenance shutdowns without cutting or welding to the bin body, keeping repair scope limited and predictable.

Function

By wearing predictably in place of the structural bin shell, liner plates extend bin body service life by a factor of five or more. Maintaining liner thickness also preserves the designed hopper-angle geometry that promotes free aggregate flow; worn or missing panels at hopper corners and the lower bin angles create ledges and pockets where material bridges or hangs up, disrupting the consistent aggregate flow rate on which feed metering accuracy depends. A bridging event requires operator intervention and introduces a feed gap that shows as a temperature excursion in the dryer.

Construction & quality

Abrasion-resistant quenched and tempered steel plate to 400–500 HB (AR400 equivalent or hardox-grade), thickness 8 mm to 20 mm depending on panel position (floor panels typically 16–20 mm; wall panels 10–14 mm). Plates are laser-profiled or plasma-cut to match bin geometry, formed to the required angles, and drilled with countersunk M16 or M20 bolt holes for a flush interior surface that prevents material snagging. Edges de-burred and corners radiused. No surface coating is applied — the through-hardened plate surface is the functional wear face.

When to replace

  • Plate thickness below 4 mm as measured by ultrasonic thickness gauge or at inspection
  • Through-wear exposing the structural bin shell plate behind the liner
  • Elongated bolt holes allowing liner movement and audible rattle during bin loading
  • Visible gouging channels on the floor liner directing material off-centre toward bin edges
  • Material bridging at bin hopper angles due to loss of smooth taper geometry from worn corners

Compatibility & fitment

Panels are profiled to fit all AVL-ABP cold feed bin series from 3-bin to 6-bin configurations across 40 TPH to 320 TPH plant capacities; Avelta supplies OEM-matched panels and field-measured replacements for any bin geometry.

Why buy from Avelta

Avelta liner plates are cut from certified AR-grade plate with hardness documentation, laser-profiled for accurate bolt-hole alignment to eliminate shimming or rework on installation. Sets for a complete bin reline are packaged per bin and labelled by position for straightforward single-shift fitment.
