Overview

The Water Electromagnetic Flow Meter (mag-flow meter) is installed in the water supply line between the storage tank and the mixer inlet on the AVL-CBP concrete batching plant. It measures volumetric flow rate with no moving parts by detecting the small voltage induced when conductive water passes through the electromagnetic field generated by coils surrounding the pipe bore — the Faraday induction principle. The signal is processed by an integral transmitter to a digital pulse output and a 4–20 mA analogue signal that the batch controller uses to calculate and control cumulative water volume per batch.

The absence of moving parts, bearings, or orifices makes the electromagnetic meter insensitive to the suspended solids and pH variation encountered in recycled or site-collected process water, while maintaining the measurement accuracy that water-to-cement ratio control demands.

Function

Water-to-cement ratio is the single most influential parameter governing hardened concrete strength and durability. The electromagnetic flow meter controls water delivery to within ±0.5–1.0 litre per batch across a range of 50–1 000 litres, enabling the mix design w/c to be consistently achieved batch after batch without manual intervention. Faulty meters introduce systematic w/c errors that are invisible to the plant operator until cube test or durability results deteriorate — with potential contractual consequences for the delivered concrete.

Construction & quality

Meter body is flanged carbon steel or 316 stainless steel lined with hard rubber or polyurethane for chemical resistance. Electrodes are Hastelloy C, 316 stainless steel, or titanium selected by process water chemistry (hard bore water, recycled water, or softened water). The electromagnetic coil assembly is epoxy-potted and rated to IP67. The integral converter displays instantaneous flow rate and batch total in litres on a backlit LCD and provides a configurable pulse output (pulses per litre) plus 4–20 mA analogue. Process connections are flanged to PN10/16 or ANSI 150 lb. Each meter is factory-calibrated with a certificate traceable to national flow standards.

When to replace

  • Batch water volume consistently higher or lower than set-point without valve or pump change
  • Zero-flow reading drifting when the water valve is confirmed closed
  • Transmitter displaying empty-pipe fault code or coil continuity alarm
  • Visible internal lining cracking or electrode fouling due to hard-water scale on inspection
  • No pulse output to batch controller despite confirmed water flow through the line

Compatibility & fitment

Supplied in DN50 and DN80 flanged configurations matching all AVL-CBP plant water line specifications; Avelta can supply a replacement transmitter (converter) only, or a complete meter body and transmitter assembly, for staged upgrade or retrofit.

Why buy from Avelta

Avelta supplies flow meters with factory calibration documentation and pulse outputs pre-configured to the AVL-CBP batch controller's water-metering protocol — eliminating the commissioning delays that arise when meters with non-standard pulse rates are installed.
