Overview
Feed bin wear liner plates are bolted, replaceable panels lining the interior walls and hopper slopes of the AVL-MAP's cold-feed aggregate bins. Aggregates discharged from loader buckets or trucks fall onto these bins with considerable impact energy and then slide along the bin slope under gravity — a combination of impact and sliding abrasion that would rapidly erode an unprotected mild-steel bin wall.
Plates are arranged in a modular grid pattern on bin walls and hopper chutes, with each panel dimensioned for individual replacement. This allows targeted liner changes based on wear inspection, typically aligned with the plant's scheduled maintenance intervals, without the need to re-plate entire bin structures.
Function
Liner plate integrity directly affects both bin geometry and material flow characteristics. Worn liners allow aggregate to contact and abrade the underlying structural bin wall, eventually thinning it to the point of perforation — a repair requiring bin removal, structural welding and potential re-inspection. Beyond structural protection, liner plates ensure that bin slopes remain sufficiently smooth to promote free aggregate flow; a rough, pitted surface from worn liners can cause material bridging and intermittent feed interruptions that disrupt plant output uniformity and mix consistency.
Construction & quality
Plates are cut and formed from AR400 or AR450 hot-rolled abrasion-resistant plate (Brinell hardness 370–470 HBW), conforming to EN 10029 or equivalent ASTM A514 grade. Standard liner thickness: 10–20 mm, with heavier gauge in the impact zone at the bin top (16–20 mm) and lighter gauge on slope faces (10–12 mm). Plates are shear-cut to size, drilled with countersunk bolt holes on a 200 mm grid and deburred to prevent fitment gaps. Working surfaces are shot-blasted to Sa 2.5 with no further coating, permitting visual wear monitoring in service. Optional ceramic-insert composite liners with 92 % Al₂O₃ tiles on AR-steel backing are available for extremely abrasive basalt or quartzite applications.
When to replace
- Remaining liner thickness at or below 4 mm, measured by UT gauge or caliper through inspection openings.
- Visible perforation or cracking of the liner surface in the high-impact zone below the bin loading point.
- Aggregate bridging or hesitant material flow at bin slopes due to surface roughness from pitting disrupting free flow.
- Loose or missing fasteners allowing liner movement and accelerating wear of the underlying bin-wall structure.
- Visible dishing or permanent deformation of liner panels in the primary impact zone.
Compatibility & fitment
Liner plates are cut to the bin panel dimensions and bolt pattern of each AVL-MAP cold-feed bin module; Avelta supplies standard and custom-cut panels in AR400 or AR450, with ceramic-insert options, matched to all plant capacity variants.
Why buy from Avelta
Avelta AR-grade liners are batch-tested for hardness and supplied with mill certificates confirming the specified 370–470 HBW range — ensuring customers are not supplied general structural plate masquerading as wear-grade steel. Custom ceramic-insert panels are available for sites running highly abrasive aggregates.
