Overview

After aggregate exits the rotary dryer at 160–180 °C it is transferred to the plant tower by a vertical bucket elevator. Hot elevator buckets are the individual carrying elements bolted to the elevator chain or belt at regular pitch intervals. Each bucket scoops a charge of hot aggregate from the elevator boot at the base, carries it vertically inside the insulated casing, and discharges it by centrifugal throw over the head sprocket or pulley into the screen feed chute at the top. In a 160 TPH plant, each bucket may carry 4–7 kg of hot aggregate at a filling rate of 40–70 buckets per minute.

Buckets operate in a continuous high-temperature, high-abrasion environment: hot angular aggregate impacts the bucket lip at every boot loading cycle, and fine residual dust abrades the bucket body throughout the carry and return run. Bucket condition is a direct determinant of elevator throughput reliability.

Function

Bucket shape, lip geometry, and volumetric capacity determine elevator throughput and power demand. Worn or cracked buckets spill hot aggregate inside the elevator casing, allowing material to accumulate at the boot. Boot pile-up causes blockage, chain or belt derailment, and — because hot aggregate at 180 °C in an enclosed space with fine bituminous dust is a fire hazard — can create a fire situation. Maintaining full bucket capacity ensures the vibrating screen receives a continuous, correctly-rated feed of hot aggregate for efficient size separation and consistent hot-bin replenishment.

Construction & quality

Pressed or fabricated from 4–8 mm carbon steel (S355 or equivalent), with a reinforced back-plate and curved base-trough profile designed for smooth aggregate release during centrifugal discharge. Bucket lip and leading edge hard-faced with abrasion-resistant weld deposit (50–55 HRC) or manufactured entirely from AR400 plate for high-abrasion aggregate types. Bolt holes sized for M12 or M16 bolt-on attachment to chain links or belt fastener plates; typically two bolts per bucket with counter-bored heads on the aggregate-contact face. Avelta buckets are manufactured to the chain pitch and casing geometry of the target elevator.

When to replace

  • Bucket lip worn thin causing aggregate to spill back over the lip rather than carrying cleanly up the casing
  • Cracks at bucket back-plate corners from thermal cycling and repeated boot-impact stress
  • Bolt holes elongated allowing the bucket to shift laterally on the chain and strike the elevator casing wall
  • Hot aggregate accumulation in the elevator boot between planned clean-outs, indicating reduced bucket volumetric capacity
  • Reduced or intermittent aggregate feed to the vibrating screen detectable as uneven hot-bin fill rates

Compatibility & fitment

Avelta hot elevator buckets are profiled and bolt-drilled to match AVL-ABP elevator chain pitch and casing width for 40 TPH to 320 TPH plant configurations; buckets are supplied as complete numbered sets matched to the elevator's chain or belt spacing.

Why buy from Avelta

Avelta buckets are press-formed from certified steel with factory-applied hard-faced lips that extend service intervals compared to plain-steel fabrications, and are supplied in full-set quantities to allow complete elevator re-bucketing during a single planned shutdown.
