Overview

The Aggregate Bin Radial Gate is the primary outlet control device fitted to each aggregate storage bin (cold bin) in the aggregate supply section of the AVL-CBP concrete batching plant. Each gate consists of a curved or flat steel blade pivoting on a horizontal axis at the bin outlet, actuated by a double-acting hydraulic cylinder or pneumatic actuator via a lever and pin assembly. The gate opens to release aggregate onto the collecting belt beneath and closes to stop material flow for weighing and gate-cut accuracy.

Because the gate operates continuously at high cycle rates — opening and closing with every batch across all aggregate fractions — wear rate on the blade face and the rubber closing seal is significant, and replacement is a routine planned maintenance task on high-throughput plants.

Function

Gate modulation controls the flow rate and weighing accuracy of each aggregate fraction discharged onto the collecting belt. A gate that does not close fully allows aggregate to trickle between batches, producing cumulative weighing errors and cross-contamination of fractions in multi-lane belt arrangements. A gate that opens unevenly or sluggishly restricts throughput and extends the aggregate fill cycle time, directly reducing plant output in m³/h. Fast, positive actuation — full open in under 3 seconds — is essential for fine aggregate cut-off accuracy and high batch cycle rates.

Construction & quality

Gate blades are fabricated from 8–12 mm structural steel plate, stiffened with welded ribs, and faced on the aggregate-contact surface with 6 mm Hardox 400 wear plate. The pivot shaft is precision-machined steel running in grease-nipple-fed bronze or high-load polymer bushings. The hydraulic cylinder (50–80 mm bore, 100–150 mm stroke) or double-acting pneumatic cylinder (80–100 mm bore) is pin-mounted on welded lugs. A rubber blade seal (50–60 Shore A) is vulcanised or mechanically fixed to the gate lower edge to provide dust-tight closure. Gate position is confirmed by inductive proximity sensors or limit switches wired to the plant PLC.

When to replace

  • Aggregate trickle or steady flow onto collecting belt with gate confirmed in closed position
  • Actuator struggling to open gate under full bin static head — abnormal pressure spike
  • Visible cracking, deformation, or breakthrough of the Hardox face plate
  • Rubber edge seal permanently compressed flat and no longer providing dust-tight closure
  • Gate position sensor not confirming open or closed status to PLC, causing batch sequence fault

Compatibility & fitment

Avelta supplies radial gates in standard opening widths of 300–700 mm to match AVL-CBP bin outlet configurations across all plant models; replacement actuators, seal strips, and proximity sensor kits are supplied as individual components for field repair.

Why buy from Avelta

Avelta manufactures and stocks complete gate assemblies with actuator, seal, and proximity switch — enabling a single-delivery replacement that restores aggregate cut-off accuracy and plant output without on-site fabrication or parts sourcing delay.
