Overview
The Cement Silo Venting Filter Bag is fitted inside the reverse-pulse or mechanical-shake vent filter canister mounted on top of the cement storage silo on the AVL-CBP batching plant. During pneumatic silo filling, air displaced from the silo by the incoming cement carries fine cement dust at concentrations that must not be released to atmosphere. The filter bag captures this dust on its surface and returns it to the silo as the cleaning mechanism releases the accumulated cake, while allowing clean air to vent freely through the filter media.
The silo vent filter is the primary environmental protection device on the cement storage and supply system. On sites where silo filling occurs multiple times per day, the filter bag is subject to intensive cyclic loading — fill pressure pulses, humidity from condensation on hot silo walls, and the abrasive action of cement dust — that determines service life.
Function
A blocked silo vent filter creates back-pressure in the silo during pneumatic filling. If pressure exceeds the silo lid seal or safety valve rating, the lid can lift or the silo walls can be over-pressured — a structural and personnel safety hazard. Conversely, a torn or failed filter bag releases cement dust to atmosphere without restriction — a regulatory environmental violation and an occupational health hazard to site personnel, as well as a source of material wastage. In either failure mode, the pneumatic delivery vehicle cannot complete its fill, interrupting cement supply to the batching plant.
Construction & quality
Bags are needle-felt polyester (PET) fibre at 500–550 g/m² areal density, finished with a calendered surface or sintered PTFE membrane for improved dust cake release in the humid, adhesive cement dust environment. Filtration efficiency is ≥99.9% at 1 µm for the membrane grade. Bags are constructed with ultrasonically welded or heat-sealed seams, a sewn snap-ring or flat-cap collar for mounting in the filter housing tube sheet, and a pleated or straight cylindrical form depending on the silo filter design. Corner inserts are heat-moulded rather than sewn to prevent seam failure at the transition.
When to replace
- Visible cement dust cloud emitted from the silo vent outlet during pneumatic filling
- Abnormal pressure build-up in silo — pressure gauge reading above design limit
- Increased back-pressure on the delivery vehicle blower during silo fill, reducing fill rate
- Bag surface tears, pin-holes, or seam failures visible on inspection access
- Differential pressure gauge across filter housing reading persistently at or above maximum design differential
Compatibility & fitment
Supplied in diameters, lengths, and collar configurations to fit the vent filter canisters on all AVL-CBP plant silo models; Avelta also supplies pulse-jet cleaning solenoid valves and diaphragm valve kits as a combined maintenance package.
Why buy from Avelta
Avelta stocks silo vent filter bags with PTFE membrane surfaces matched to cement dust cake-release requirements, ensuring the filter restores both clean-air environmental compliance and pneumatic filling efficiency from the first silo load after replacement.
