Overview

The Aggregate Collecting Belt Conveyor is the main conveyor running beneath the aggregate cold bins on the AVL-CBP batching plant. It collects aggregate discharged sequentially or simultaneously from the bin radial gates, transports the blended aggregate fraction toward the mixer elevator skip or intermediate weigh hopper, and discharges into the mixer loading system. The conveyor is a structural sub-assembly comprising a fabricated steel frame, drive and tail drum assemblies, troughing and return idler roller sets, the rubber belt, belt cleaners, and a take-up tensioning system.

On high-capacity plants the collecting conveyor can carry peak loads of 15–60 tonnes per hour of mixed coarse and fine aggregate across belt widths of 800–1 200 mm, and its availability directly governs the plant's achievable output in m³/h of concrete per shift.

Function

The collecting conveyor must handle peak discharge from multiple bins simultaneously while maintaining belt tracking and minimising carry-back onto return idlers and the plant structure. Belt speed, typically 1.0–1.6 m/s, and the timing of gate openings govern the aggregate batching cycle time. Frame alignment, drive drum lagging condition, and idler spacing directly determine belt life and carry-back losses — which, if unchecked, contaminate the understructure, create slip hazards, and increase aggregate wastage per batch.

Construction & quality

The frame is fabricated from structural RHS and channel steel, hot-dip galvanised or epoxy-painted. The drive drum is mild steel with 8–10 mm grooved Diamond-pattern rubber lagging for maximum wet-grip. The tail drum is rubber-lagged or bare steel. The belt is multi-ply EP (polyester-polyamide) rubber, 3-ply or 4-ply, 800–1 200 mm wide, with 6–10 mm M-grade or S-grade top cover for aggregate service. Drive is a motorised drum or shaft-mount geared motor, 3–22 kW depending on plant capacity. A polyurethane head scraper and V-plough return scraper are included as standard. Belt tension is maintained by a manual screw or gravity take-up arrangement.

When to replace

  • Belt consistently tracking off-centre despite repeated tensioner and idler adjustment
  • Top cover rubber showing cuts, longitudinal gouges, or ply delamination
  • Drive drum lagging worn smooth — belt slipping under load or in wet conditions
  • Carry-back accumulation increasing under the return run and on the frame structure
  • Drive motor running above design full-load amperage suggesting belt overload or stiffening

Compatibility & fitment

Avelta supplies complete collecting conveyor assemblies and individual components — belt, drum lagging kits, idler sets, scrapers — matched to all AVL-CBP plant models; belts are supplied as factory-spliced endless or mechanical-joint lengths to the as-built conveyor length.

Why buy from Avelta

Avelta engineers and supplies complete conveyor assemblies or component kits — including factory-spliced belts and pre-set take-up arrangements — matched to original plant frame dimensions, reducing on-site assembly time and first-run alignment risk.
