Overview

The aggregate belt feeders in the AVL-WMM plant extract calibrated fractions from each cold-feed hopper bay and deliver them to the collection conveyor below at a controlled volumetric rate set by the variable-frequency drive. Each feeder belt runs across a flat or lightly troughed idler set beneath the hopper outlet, in direct contact with crushed aggregate including sharp angular stone fractions up to 40 mm and wet materials carrying adhered silt.

The feeder belt is a relatively short and wide belt — typically 600 to 1,000 mm wide and 4 to 10 m long in the AVL-WMM hopper configuration — and must resist both the point-load impact of aggregate dropping from the hopper gate and the continuous abrasion of stone drawn across the belt surface over the head pulley. Avelta supplies feeder belts pre-cut to length with vulcanised endless joins available as part of the order.

Function

The feeder belt provides the primary gravimetric control surface for each aggregate fraction in the proportioning system. A worn or slipping feeder belt introduces feed-rate error that propagates through the WMM mix design, causing aggregate grading deviations that can result in project quality failures. The belt must maintain its surface texture and ply integrity to provide consistent traction without slip on the drive pulley across the full variable-frequency speed range.

Construction & quality

3-ply or 4-ply rubber-textile construction to ISO 14890. Top cover: minimum 6 mm, Grade M (cut and gouge resistant) compound, hardness 60–65 Shore A. Bottom cover: 3 mm plain rubber for drive-pulley grip. Carcass: high-tensile nylon-nylon (EP) fabric plies, EP500/3 or EP630/4 depending on belt width and hopper load. Joints: hot-vulcanised step-lap splice. Edges: cut and sealed or moulded. Belts are dynamically load-rated to ISO 22721 and supplied with a batch production certificate.

When to replace

  • Top cover thickness worn to 2 mm or less across the carrying face
  • Fabric carcass threads visible through the top cover surface
  • Edge fraying extending more than 20 mm inward from the belt edge
  • Belt tracking consistently off-centre despite idler adjustment (indicates camber from uneven wear)
  • Feed-rate accuracy degrading at constant drive speed, indicating belt slipping on drive pulley

Compatibility & fitment

Supplied for all AVL-WMM cold-feed hopper configurations; Avelta specifies width, length, ply rating, and cover grade to match the customer's feeder layout and aggregate type.

Why buy from Avelta

Avelta feeder belts are manufactured to the same ISO 14890 cover grade and ply specification as the plant's original belts, and are supplied ready-spliced to minimise installation downtime at site.
