Overview
Conveyor belt scrapers are mounted at the head pulley of each conveyor in the AVL-WMM feed system, applying controlled transverse contact pressure against the carrying face of the belt as it wraps around the head pulley. The scraper removes the film of fine aggregate, wet clay fines, and mineral dust that adheres to the belt surface after material has discharged, preventing carryback material from accumulating on return idlers, structural frames, and the ground beneath the conveyor.
Avelta WMM scrapers use a primary blade contacting the pulley wrap zone and an optional secondary blade on the return run downstream. Each blade is a segmented element clamped in an adjustable holder that maintains constant contact pressure through a spring-tensioning or torque-arm mechanism, compensating for progressive wear without daily operator adjustment.
Function
Belt carryback in a WMM plant is particularly damaging because wet aggregate fines build up on return idler rollers, causing eccentric loading and belt mis-tracking, and accumulate on the belt weigher span, distorting the load cell reading and corrupting proportioning accuracy. Effective scraping also reduces conveyor structure corrosion from wet fines and minimises ground contamination beneath the plant — an increasingly regulated aspect of project site compliance. Blade wear is the primary driver of scraper performance loss and must be monitored regularly.
Construction & quality
Two blade types are available: polyurethane (PU) blades at 85–90 Shore A for general aggregate duty and low belt-surface wear — the standard selection — and tungsten-carbide-tipped (WC) blades for high-silica aggregate or sites with severe carryback loads. Both use a 45° or 60° leading-edge contact angle depending on primary or secondary position. Blade segments are 100–150 mm wide, replaceable individually. Holder bar: 50×50 mm square-section EN8 steel, drilled to the plant's scraper mounting points. Spring or torque-arm tensioning maintains 3–8 N/mm contact pressure throughout the blade wear cycle.
When to replace
- Visible carryback accumulation appearing on return idlers between cleaning intervals
- Fine aggregate build-up on the ground directly beneath the head pulley
- Blade contact face worn to 5 mm remaining depth or less
- Score marks appearing on the belt carrying surface (blade backing steel contacting belt)
- Scraper spring or torque arm fully bottomed out with no further take-up travel available
Compatibility & fitment
Blade segments available in widths to suit all feeder and collection conveyor belt widths in the AVL-WMM range; holder bars are drilled to match the plant's existing scraper mounting points.
Why buy from Avelta
Avelta scraper blades are compound-matched to the belt cover grade and aggregate hardness specified for the customer's plant, protecting the belt surface from abrasion while maintaining effective cleaning contact.
