Overview

The collection conveyor is the backbone of the AVL-WMM feed system: a single wide conveyor that runs beneath all cold-feed hoppers, receives metered aggregate fractions from each feeder belt simultaneously, carries the combined load past the belt weigher, and delivers the total aggregate charge to the mixer inlet via the feed chute. It typically runs at a fixed speed determined by plant throughput and handles the full rated capacity — 150 to 400 TPH in most AVL-WMM configurations.

Because the collection conveyor receives aggregate drop impacts from multiple hopper positions along its length and carries the combined wet charge (moisture content 4–8%) for 12 to 25 m, it experiences greater fatigue and abrasion loading than any individual feeder belt. The belt must be correctly troughed — typically 35° — to contain the aggregate pile profile, especially on wider machines.

Function

The collection conveyor provides the critical material pathway between the proportioning hoppers and the mixing unit. A damaged or camber-distorted belt shifts the aggregate pile off-centre, creating non-representative belt weigher readings that corrupt the PLC's feed-rate calculation. A cracked or delaminated belt introduces loose fragments into the mix or stalls the conveyor entirely. Maintaining correct belt tension and cover integrity on the collection conveyor directly determines overall plant throughput accuracy and uptime.

Construction & quality

EP630/4 or EP800/4 textile-reinforced belt. Top cover: 8–10 mm, ISO 14890 Grade M compound, smooth surface for reliable belt-weigher operation and resistance to cut and gouge from aggregate drop impact. Bottom cover: 4 mm plain rubber for drive-pulley traction and return-idler contact. Edge: cut and sealed. Splice: hot-vulcanised step-lap or finger-splice (plant-dependent). Carcass tensile strength: 630–800 N/mm width. Belt width: 800 to 1,200 mm. Fire-resistant (Grade N) cover available for underground or enclosed plant installations.

When to replace

  • Top cover thinned to 3 mm or less across the belt weigher span
  • Longitudinal cuts parallel to belt travel from sharp material in the feeder chute
  • Lateral tracking wear visible at one or both belt edges over the full run
  • Belt sag between idlers increasing, indicating tension loss or ply stretch
  • Aggregate spillage at belt edges when carrying design tonnage, indicating pile spread beyond 75% of belt width

Compatibility & fitment

Available for all AVL-WMM collection conveyor frames; Avelta specifies width, ply rating, and splice type from the plant's conveyor engineering record matched to the plant's rated capacity.

Why buy from Avelta

Avelta collection belts are manufactured to the correct EP carcass rating for the plant's nominal throughput, ensuring tensioning and tracking stability from the first day of installation.
