Overview

The cold-feed hoppers in the AVL-WMM plant receive aggregate fractions loaded directly by wheel loader or excavator — typically 0–10 mm, 10–20 mm, and 20–40 mm fractions in separate bays. The hopper walls, chute angles, and floor panels are exposed to continuous abrasive sliding of angular crushed stone as the hoppers empty and refill across each work shift. Without replaceable liner plates, the fabricated structural steel hopper walls would require welding repair or panel replacement within months under heavy-cycle operation.

Avelta hopper liner plates are bolted to the inside of the hopper walls and floor panels using countersunk fasteners, presenting a sacrificial wear surface that can be replaced without welding or structural modification to the hopper body. Plates are supplied in a segmented layout matched to the hopper geometry and aggregate fraction of each bay.

Function

Liner plates directly determine hopper service life and the frequency of structural inspection required on the hopper floor and walls. In WMM plants operating two or three shifts per day at 150–300 TPH, hopper liners typically require replacement every 6,000–10,000 loader-hours depending on aggregate mineralogy and maximum stone size. Worn-through liners allow aggregate contact with the structural plate, requiring offline welding repair. Proactive liner replacement on a planned schedule eliminates this unplanned downtime and protects the hopper structural warranty.

Construction & quality

Hot-rolled abrasion-resistant steel, Brinell hardness 400–500 HB, equivalent to international grades AR400 and AR450. Plates are plasma- or oxy-fuel-cut to the exact panel dimensions of the specific hopper bay geometry, then CNC-drilled for countersunk M16 fasteners on the hopper bolt grid. Edges are machine-cut to dimensional accuracy without hand-grinding, preserving the hardened surface layer. Top (wear) face: as-rolled mill surface, providing maximum hardness depth. Bottom face: light mill scale for corrosion resistance during outdoor storage and handling. Full-panel hardware kits are included.

When to replace

  • Plate thickness worn to 3 mm or less, confirmed by ultrasonic thickness measurement
  • Visible perforation or through-cracking in any plate
  • Loose plates from elongated bolt holes or sheared fasteners
  • Grooves or pitting appearing on the structural hopper plate visible behind a loose liner
  • Aggregate fines leaking through liner plate joints onto the feeder belt below

Compatibility & fitment

Plates cut and drilled to the bolt pattern of AVL-WMM hoppers across all plant capacity ranges; Avelta supplies full hopper-bay sets or individual panel replacements as required.

Why buy from Avelta

Avelta hopper liners are cut and CNC-drilled to the as-built hopper drawing, guaranteeing bolt-on fit without site modification, and are despatched as complete panel sets with all fasteners included.
